Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet is a voluntary social action group working for empowerment of women and girls. Registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act, It is a non-profit organization working in the field of education since 1952.

The Management of the Vidyapeet makes every effort to fulfill the vision of its founders KV Ranga Reddy, Sangam Laxmibai, Mamidi Bhoj Reddy, Bojjam Narsimhulu, Pasham Papaiah, A Shyamala Devi, P Lalitha Devi, B Ramdev, MH Guptha who are no more with us.

The contributions made by Ranga Reddy, Laxmibai and Bhoj Reddy, who were close associates in politics and social work, for the development of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet and its constituent institutions are unforgettable.

Konda Venkat Ranga Reddy (1890 - 1970) was born into an agricultural family in Peddamangalaram Village, Moinabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. He studied law and practiced in High Court of Hyderabad. He also taught law. He was a freedom fighter and participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Movement. He served as President of Hyderabad Andhra Mahila Sabha in 1948. He was one of the founder-members of the Hyderabad State Congress. He worked as a Cabinet Minister in the states of Hyderabad and as Deputy Chief Minister after the formation of Andhra Pradesh. In recognition of his public service, the then Government of Andhra Pradesh named his native Hyderabad Rural District as Ranga Reddy District.

He was a founder-member of Andhra Vidyalaya Education Society which established first Telugu Medium High School in the Nizam’s Dominion of Hyderabad. This is the one of the oldest educational societies in the twin cities.

Ranga Reddy was a firm believer in the empowerment of women and girls through education. He was the founder president of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet, an educational society exclusively devoted to education of girls and women.

Sangam Laxmibai (1911 - 1979) was born in Korremula Village, Ghatkesar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.

Sangam Laxmibai took part in the protest against the Simon Commission during her student life. She took active part in Salt Satyagraha and was imprisoned from 1930-31. Her valiant contribution to the political struggle against Razakars and before Police Action of September 1948 cannot be forgotten by the people of Hyderabad.

Laxmibai was elected to the Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly in 1st General Elections in 1952. She was the Deputy Minister for Education in the Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Ministry upto 31st October 1956, when Andhra Pradesh was formed. She was the first woman ministers in the then Hyderabad state. She served as a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education for three years.

Sangam Laxmibai won Vikarabad Lok Sabha seat unchallenged in 1957. She was also the first woman MP from Telangana region. Vikarabad seat was in existence for only three general elections (1952, 1957 and 1962) and the constituency was abolished in 1967. Sangam Laxmibai was a two-time MP from Vikarabad and again won as MP from Medak in 1967. In Parliament, she was active and took initiative on various issues such as education of women, small scale industries and rural health.

Sangam Laxmibai, a child widow, was a dedicated social worker. She was inspired by and associated with great social worker like Durgabai Deshmukh. She was the founder-secretary of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet, which aims at empowering girls and women through education, particularly technical education. She was a principled, kind, obliging and affectionate person.

Mamidi Bhoj Reddy (1919 – 2001) was born into an agricultural family in Shamshabad Village, on the outskirts of Hyderabad City. He studied at Osmania University. Though trained to be a lawyer, he never practiced law. He participated in the Hyderabad Liberation Movement. He served as Chairman, Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad for three consecutive terms from 1962 to 1976, the longest tenure as ZP chairman in the then Andhra Pradesh. He was known for his distinguished work, integrity and commitment for local government. He quit politics soon after the imposition of emergency in 1975.

Bhoj Reddy was a passionate supporter of public library movement and was Chairman of Hyderabad Granthalaya Samstha and an office-bearer of Andhra Pradesh Granthalaya Samstha for several decades. He played a key role in establishment of hundreds of public libraries throughout Andhra Pradesh. He was also actively associated with the Co-operative Banks Association and AP State Co-operative Union for ten years. He was a firm believer in the empowerment of women and girls through education. He was the founder-treasurer of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeet.
