Electoral Literacy Club

An Electoral Literacy Club is a platform to engage students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitise them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting. At ELCs, learning meets fun. Activities and Games are designed to stimulate and motivate students provoking them to think and ask questions. Through ELC, Election Commission of India aims at strengthening the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.

Electoral literacy clubs are being set up in country to promote electoral literacy in all age groups of the Indian citizens through engaging and interesting activities and hands-on experience but in an apolitical, neutral and non-partisan manner. Electoral Literacy club are especially being set up in colleges all across India targeting the new voters, (in the age group of 18-21 years old) pursuing their graduation.

Under the initiative of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), KV Ranga Reddy Degree College has established an Electoral Literacy Club on 29th September 2023. The club will have all the students from all semesters as its members.

    Objectives
  1. To create democratic awareness among students.
  2. To increase participation of students in the electoral process.
  3. To register first time voters.
  4. To give systematic education to voters.
  5. To educate the targeted populations about voter registration, electoral process and related matters through hands on experience.
  6. To help the target audience understand the value of their vote and exercise their right to franchise in a confident, comfortable and ethical manner.
  7. Engage (actively) in promoting awareness of ‘Right to Vote’ among students, faculty members and community at large.
  8. Enable critical thinking on issues related to elections, rights, democracies/non-democracies electoral system and its processes.
  9. Encourage student participation and mobility to aforementioned issues – in theory and practice.
  10. The ELC members shall meet once a week to engage in a closed or open group session of thematic discussions on relevant topics.
  11. They will organize activities like outreach programs and in campus programs with targeted groups to create voting awareness.
  12. They shall function towards the goal to create and preserve the literature for the club.

  1. ✊ From Awareness to Action: Rise for Rights
    On 28 April 2026 (Tuesday), the Electoral Literacy Club organized a program titled “Rise for Rights,” with the objective of promoting awareness about human rights and civic responsibilities. The event was conducted under the guidance of the Bharatiya Human Rights Council and in alignment with the objectives of the National Human Rights Commission.
    The program was successfully carried out by the students of Keshav Memorial College of Law, who actively engaged in spreading awareness about fundamental rights. The initiative underscored the vital role of youth in upholding democratic values and advocating for justice, equality, and human rights in society.
  2. 🚫 PRAJA PALANA – PRAGATHI PRANALIKA: Drug Awareness Initiative
    An Awareness Program on Habit-Forming Drugs was organized by the Drug Control Administration Telangana in association with KV Ranga Reddy Degree College for Women, as part of Health Week (06–11 April 2026) observed by the Government of Telangana.
    As part of the initiative, competitions in Essay Writing, Elocution, and Debate on the theme of drug abuse were conducted on 09 April 2026 at the college. The Felicitation Ceremony and Prize Distribution for winners was held during the Valedictory Event on 11 April 2026, marking Drug Control Regulatory Strengthening Day.
    The program successfully raised awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoted responsible and healthy lifestyle choices.
    Students Feedback: Students expressed highly positive feedback about the Praja Palana Awareness Program on habit-forming drugs, stating that it was both informative and engaging.Students appreciated the interactive activities such as elocution, essay writing, and debates, as these gave them an opportunity to express their thoughts, improve their communication skills, and build confidence.
    The program was carried out by the Electoral Literacy Club.
  3. One-Line Manifesto Activity – Promoting Clear Democratic Expression
    The Electoral Literacy Club conducted an activity titled “One-Line Manifesto” on 11 March 2026 (Wednesday) to highlight the importance of effective communication and meaningful interaction in society. The activity encouraged students to express powerful ideas and beliefs in a single impactful sentence.
    The aim of the activity was to help students understand how a concise message can clearly communicate a strong value, vision, or social belief. Through this exercise, students learned how meaningful interaction and communication help people share ideas, understand different perspectives, and build stronger relationships within communities.
  4. Voices of Democracy: Mock Parliament on Budget 2026
    On 20 February 2026 (Friday), the Electoral Literacy Club conducted a Mock Parliament Session on Budget 2026, providing students with a practical understanding of parliamentary procedures and budget discussions. The session featured a spirited and structured debate, where participants represented ruling and opposition parties to deliberate on key budget proposals. After detailed discussions and negotiated amendments, the budget was passed by a narrow majority, reflecting both political differences and democratic cooperation. Key highlights of the mock budget included increased allocations for healthcare and education, infrastructure development for job creation, expanded renewable energy funding, and targeted support for small businesses. The activity effectively demonstrated the importance of accountability, transparency, and informed decision-making in a democratic setup, making it an engaging and educational experience for all participants.
  5. Education for All: Poster Presentation on Right to Education
    On 30 January 2026 (Friday), the Electoral Literacy Club conducted a Poster Presentation Activity on the theme “Right to Education.” Through creative posters and presentations, students highlighted that the right to education is a fundamental human right ensuring free and compulsory basic education without discrimination. The activity emphasized how education empowers individuals with knowledge, skills, and confidence, promotes social equality, reduces poverty, and strengthens democracy. Students participated actively and effectively conveyed the importance of equal learning opportunities for personal growth, national development, and the creation of a just and peaceful society.
  6. Truth Matters: Fake News vs Real News Awareness Session
    On 09 January 2026 (Friday), the Electoral Literacy Club conducted an awareness activity titled “Fake News vs Real News” to educate students about responsible media consumption. The session highlighted the key differences between real news, which is based on verified facts and ethical journalism, and fake news, which spreads false or misleading information for manipulation or personal gain. Students learned about the dangers of misinformation on social media, its impact on public trust, and the importance of critical thinking and source verification. The activity successfully promoted media literacy and empowered students to identify credible information in today’s digital age.
  7. Quiz on Constitution & Elections: Learning Democracy the Fun Way!
    On 31 December 2025 (Wednesday), the Electoral Literacy Club conducted an engaging quiz competition on the History of the Constitution and Electoral Procedures, aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of democratic values. The activity enhanced awareness of the Preamble, Fundamental Rights and Duties, the structure of Government, and the role of the Election Commission. Through interactive rounds, students developed critical thinking, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation of civic rights, voting procedures, and responsible participation in democracy.
  8. Slogan Writing on Human Rights
    The Electoral Literacy Club conducted a slogan writing competition on 22nd December 2025. When writing slogans about human rights, the goal is to create short, powerful statements that resonate with people and drive them to action. These slogans often focus on key principles like equality, justice, and dignity. They can be used to raise awareness about specific issues, like freedom of speech or the right to education, or to advocate for broader goals, such as ending discrimination or promoting peace.
  9. Voices for the Planet – Letter Writing on Environmental Concerns
    The Electoral Literacy Club organized a Letter Writing Activity on Environmental Concerns on 16th September 2025 with the aim of fostering civic responsibility and environmental awareness among students. Through this initiative, participants were encouraged to express their thoughts, raise concerns, and suggest solutions regarding pressing environmental issues in the form of letters. The activity not only enhanced their writing and communication skills but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards the environment and society, aligning with the club’s vision of nurturing informed, responsible, and proactive citizens.
  10. Political Podcast Activity by ELC Club
    On 26th August 2025, the ELC Club organized a Political Podcast Activity to provide diverse perspectives and in-depth discussions on current issues. The session aimed at developing key skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, research, and teamwork. Guided by the coordinator, students worked in teams to analyze policies, share informed views, and explore new ideas. The activity encouraged democratic participation and promoted an appreciation of diverse perspectives.
  11. Understanding Governance: Mock Parliament Session
    The Electoral Literary Club (ELC) organized a Mock Parliament on 12.08.2025, offering students hands-on learning about parliamentary procedures, the legislative process, and the roles of political leaders. The session focused on discussions and debates around the GST Bill, enabling participants to strengthen their public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork skills while fostering awareness of democratic processes and civic responsibilities.
  12. The Electoral Literacy Club organized a Simulation Game: Discussion on Tax on 22nd July 2025, with the objective of encouraging participants to engage in meaningful discussions on taxation and its impact on society. The activity provided students with a valuable platform to explore the concept of tax in a practical context, enhancing their critical thinking skills and promoting mutual communication and collaboration. Through this interactive session, students effectively expressed their viewpoints and deepened their understanding of the subject.
  13. The Electoral Literacy Club organized a debate on 14th July 2025 on the topic “How the Exercise of Individual Rights Benefits Society.” The primary objective of the event was to enhance students' critical thinking skills and provide a platform to express their views confidently. The debate witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students articulating and defending their opinions passionately. The activity not only encouraged healthy discussion but also allowed participants to showcase their communication skills, reasoning, and confidence.
    Academic Session 2024 - 25
  1. On March 19, 2025, the Electoral Literacy Club organized a Poster Presentation and Campaign aimed at educating and empowering students about the significance of voting, the electoral process, and the responsibilities of good citizenship. The event featured creative poster displays highlighting key electoral concepts, informative sessions on the voting procedure, and interactive activities to engage students in understanding their role in a democratic society. Through this initiative, the club sought to foster awareness, encourage active participation, and instill a sense of civic duty among young voters.
    Academic Session 2023 - 24
  1. The Electoral Literacy Club conducted a campaign on 09.05.2024 to encourage participation in voting. As part of the initiative, a special invitation card was designed and displayed to invite and motivate people to exercise their right to vote.
  2. April 2024: A series of campaigns entitled "wall of democracy" (by way of Poster Presentations) were conducted by the ELC to create awareness on the culture of electoral participation and right to vote.
  3. A survey on Number of Students enrolled to the Elctoral List was conducted on 12.11.2023

  5. A slogan writing competition was conducted by the ELC on 07.11.2023. A slogan is a series of words that summarise the purpose of Electoral rights.
  6. The ELC in collaboration with Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), on 29.10.2023 conducted a campaign within the college on “recheck your vote” and to download “voters helpline app”.
